ConsultEarth Cookie Policy

Last updated: 1 June 2026 Version: 1.0

1. About this policy

This Cookie Policy explains how ConsultEarth, operated by Consultearth Ltd (company number 16727374), uses cookies and similar technologies. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more generally.

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. Similar technologies include things like local storage and pixels. They can be set by us ("first-party") or by a third party whose service we use ("third-party"). They can last only for your visit ("session") or persist for a set period ("persistent").

2. Our approach: essential cookies, plus optional analytics with your consent

We keep cookies to a minimum and we group them into two kinds:

  • Strictly necessary cookies — needed to run the service (signing in, security). These do not require consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), and they are always on.
  • Optional analytics cookies — used only to understand how the service is used so we can improve it. These are switched off until you agree. We ask for your choice through a cookie banner the first time you visit, and you can change it at any time (see Section 5).

We do not use advertising, targeting, or social-media tracking cookies.

3. The cookies and storage we use

3.1 Strictly necessary (always on)

These are required for the platform to work and to stay secure. If you block them, you may not be able to sign in or sign up.

3.2 Optional analytics (set only after you accept)

Name / patternSet byTypePurposeDuration
ph_* (for example ph_<key>_posthog)PostHog (our analytics provider)Third-party; optional — analyticsHelps us understand, in aggregate, how the service is used so we can improve itPersistent; removed if you withdraw consent

We use PostHog for product analytics, configured to process data in the European Union. We do not use these cookies, and PostHog does not capture analytics, unless you accept optional cookies. If you later reject or withdraw consent, we stop analytics and remove these cookies from your device.

4. The categories we use

CategoryWhat it doesConsent needed?
Strictly necessarySign-in, security, remembering your cookie choice (the cookies in Section 3.1)No
Performance / analyticsUnderstanding usage in aggregate to improve the service (PostHog, Section 3.2)Yes
FunctionalRemembering preferences and choices — we do not currently use theseYes, if introduced
Targeting / advertisingWe do not use theseYes, if introduced

We will not enable any "Yes" category without your consent, and we will update this policy before introducing a new one.

5. Managing your choices

On ConsultEarth. You can accept or reject optional analytics cookies using the banner shown on your first visit. To change your choice at any time, use the "Manage cookies" link in the site footer. If you reject or withdraw, we stop analytics and remove the analytics cookies from your device.

Global Privacy Control (GPC). If your browser sends a GPC opt-out signal, we treat it as a rejection of optional cookies automatically, and we do not show the banner.

In your browser. You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop parts of ConsultEarth from working (for example, staying signed in).

6. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy whenever our use of cookies changes — in particular, before we introduce any new category of non-essential cookie. The "Last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
